Ireland will have its first ever female representative at the Professional Windsurfing Tour (PWA) this year. Katie McAnena, a young Galwegian doctor, will begin her first professional wave championship on Friday the 12th of July at the PWA Tour in El Medano, Tenerife. She is the only Irish competitor, male or female, taking part.

Katie, who is currently ranked Ireland’s No. 1 ladies windsurfer and sixth overall in the country, has experienced the thrills of windsurfing all around the globe. She spent a year travelling from Hawaii, a place she has been to four times, to Western Australia between 2008 and 2009 but the west coast of Ireland was where she mastered her skills. She grew up in Galway City where she spent her summers training on the water with Rusheen Bay Windsurfing.
