The afternoon of Sunday 24th June saw round two of the P750 National Powerboat Championship roar into the centre of Wexford Town as the afternoon highlight of the John Barry Maritime Festival. Blazing sunshine saw the town quays thronged with spectators as this exciting fleet took to the sun-kissed waters. A new spectator-friendly format for powerboat racing in 2012 continues to prove a winner for audiences as it focuses heavily on bringing racing right up close to the shoreline. These amazing inflatable race boats are best suited to thrashing through big surf and waves but the calm waters of Wexford Harbour meant that strategy rather than brute force would win the day. A tight and tricky course made for wonderful racing across all three heats, but in the end it was current championship leader - Dublin's 'Team The Gym'- that took the honours from Clifden's 'Team Batman & Robin'. Finishing off the podium were Kinsale's 'Team Double Trouble' in only their second race.
The championship continues when racing hits the beach of Ardmore, County Waterford on July 29th as part of the popular Ardmore Pattern Festival.
