With the Volvo Ocean Race only weeks away from returning to Galway, the ISA and Galway Bay Sailing Club are delighted to have launched the on the water activities programme for the festival which comprises of 42 water based events.
The launch was held on Friday the 15th of June and was addressed by ISA President Niamh McCutcheon who congratulated John Killeen and Enda O Coineen whose initiative and hard work has brought this world class event to the west of Ireland.
8,000 people are expected to take part in the water events over the week of the finale. Harry Hermon, ISA Chief Executive explained that the ISA is heavily involved in the programme including the Access Sailing Programme. The Programme has already attracted over 100 disabled sailors, a joint event organised by ISA, Irish Disabled Sailing Association and GBSC designed to encourage disabled people afloat with the support of some of the Volvo sailors. The Programme is a credit to Ciaran Murphy, the ISA’s Regional Development and the team in Galway Bay Sailing Club but they have also received huge support from:
- Sea Scouts
- Irish Disabled Sailing Association
- Rusheen Bay Windsurfing
- Bow Waves
