A new schools sailing programme has been launched by the ISA and Irish Sea-Org. The programme is open to all ISA clubs based within coastal counties from Fingal, Dublin to Kerry. Grants ranging from €300 to €3,000 will be available dependent on objectives and capabilities.

Deadline for applications is 4pm Friday 29th June 2012.

The objective of the School Sailing Programme (SSP) is to increase participation of national and secondary school students in sailing that would not normally have access to the sea and assist not for profit sailing clubs in integrating sustainable programmes to increase their membership. This initiative is part of the “Water Sports for All” initiative of the Irish Sea Marine Leisure Knowledge Network (ISMLKN) an Ireland / Wales Interreg IVA Programme and will be implemented through the Irish Sailing Association. As a European Regional Development Fund the grant is only applicable to provide financial support for initiatives run by ISA Sailing Clubs in Coastal Counties of the Irish Sea from Fingal, Dublin to Kerry.

The administration, programme design, implementation and evaluation will be organised through the Irish Sailing Association and its approved Training Centres. The Schools Sailing Programme will adhere to the established teaching methodology developed by the Irish Sailing Association based on the Small Boat Sailing Scheme. Success of the programme will be based on the amount of sailing certificates awarded, the number of new schools involved and the amount of sustainable programmes continuing to run around the coastline in ISA sailing clubs. All participants will be invited to participate in an Inter Club Schools Regatta, which shall take place in the spring term of 2013.

The bursaries associated with this grant scheme will be to cover the cost of implementing the programme, training and staff development related to running the SSP. The bursary will range from €300 to €3,000 dependent on tender’s objectives and capabilities. Successful applicants will be informed of their application by Friday 10th August 2012. As part of the application, each club must provide a 2yr programme detailing the self-sustaining aspect to the initiative to ensure the continuation of the programme into the future.

Download the application form below and return to the ISA Office by 4pm Friday 29th June 2012.
