The RSGYC has announced the dates for the second year of the exciting sailing/cycling event for Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October 2012. The event will feature a cycle of about 70k starting at 1300 on Sat 6th October from the Club. The cycle will finish back at the Club at about 1700. After a cycle, it is important to rehydrate, so there will be drinks in the Club followed by dinner. Last year the event attracted 23 cyclists, 15 Laser sailors and 25 to dinner.
On Sunday 7th October there will be 3 to 4 Laser races starting at 1100. The races will be short, with the emphasis on skill rather than endurance!
The club invites all Masters to come along. You may participate in the cycle or the Laser racing alone, but as the weekend is all about the social they would encourage everyone to jump on a bike and do a few km. The cycle route will take us up to Enniskerry in the Wicklow mountains, so the roads are quiet and the scenery great. There will be an athlete's module which includes a climb up the Sally Gap and well, a non athletes module which will include a drink in Enniskerry instead!
Drinks and dinner will be in the Club at about 1900 on Saturday. Last year's event was a great evening with lots of laughs and a cycling prize giving.
On the Sunday the aim is for a 1100 start with 3/4 races of about 30 minutes duration finishing at about 1400 with prize giving.
The entry fee for the sailing part is €20. The cycling is free. The event is aimed at Masters (over 35) but if any of you younger guys feel like being beaten by an oldie, then come along!
Entry for the event and dinner will be online via www.rsgyc.ie
