Two Olympic Qualifications for Ireland...so far

The ISA Olympic Squad have been producing some fantastic results over in Perth at the ISAF Sailing World Championships, the first Olympic qualifier.

Annalise Murphy in the Laser Radial was the first Irish sailor to qualify Ireland for the Olympics. She finished 6th overall from a fleet of 102, a personal best for Annalise.

Second to qualify Ireland for London 2012 were the 49er duo, Ryan Seaton and Matt McGovern. They are currently 10th overall with racing continuing until Saturday and the medal race on Sunday.

Peter O'Leary and David Burrows in the Star are currently the 11th nation in their fleet, with the top 11 nations qualifying for the Olympics. Their final day of racing is tomorrow before the medal race on Saturday so they must maintain or improve their position tomorrow if they are to qualify Ireland at this event.

Independent non-carded Irish sailor James Espey is still in contention for Olympic qualification. He is currently the 32nd nation in the Laser fleet with the top 35 nations qualifying. His next day of racing is scheduled for Saturday, a good performance will ensure Ireland qualify in the Laser class.

Other sailors at the event were Ger Owens and Scott Flanigan in the 470 and Ross Hamilton in the Finn. Neither teams achieved qualification but will have one more opportunity at the individual class World Championships throughout 2012.
