In October, following a significant number of complaints received by Galway County Council, primarily on the issues of camper vans and vessels remaining for extended periods in the vicinity of Kinvarra Pier, the County Council decided to introduce a bye law prohibiting parking of camper vans and yachts on the Kinvarra Pier ‘for the purpose of habitation’.
The ISA Regional Development Team immediately commenced numerous meetings with both councillors and local community groups to protect the interests of visiting boaters. This action resulted with Galway County Council amending their byelaws to allow vessels used for ‘bona fide navigation’ to continue to use the pier for overnight stays.
Chief Executive of the ISA Harry Hermon remarked “I am delighted the ISA were able to help persuade the Council to protect a valuable pier for navigation, which will also help to continue to support local businesses from visiting yachts to the community of Kinvarra”
