The ISA held our Olympic Media Briefing on Tuesday (18th October) along with the other Aquatic Olympic Sports; swimming, rowing and canoeing. ISA High Performance Director James O’Callaghan delivered the presentation and set out the ISA’s hopes for London 2012. He stated “Our goal is an Irish team standing on the podium in London”.
Sailing was the only sport to have an athlete present with David Burrows taking the helm. The media briefing was to coincide with Decembers ISAF World Championships in Perth, the first opportunity our sailors have of qualifying for the Olympics.
The ISA Olympic Squad members making the trip to Perth are; Annalise Murphy (Laser Radial), Peter O’Leary and David Burrows (Star) and Matt Mc Govern and Ryan Seaton (49er). They will be joined by independent Irish Olympic campaigners; James Espey (Laser), Ross Hamilton (Finn) and Ger Owens & Scott Flanigan and Rob Lehane & Tom Mapleback (470).
The ISAF World Championships in Perth will begin on the 3rd of December. The ISA will be reporting daily on the sailors progress once the event commences on our website
www.sailing.ie and our Olympic Facebook Page found
here.
Good luck to all the Irish sailors competing from the ISA.
