In an unfortunate turn of events the ISA All Ireland Junior & Girls Sailing Championships at the Royal St. George Yacht Club have been cancelled for 2011. 

ISA Racing Manager Ed Alcock met with the PRO and club Sailing Manager this morning, Saturday the 3rd of December, and regretfully decided to call off the event due to the increased winds. Met Eireann is forecasting 20 knots with gusts 30-40 knots. 

Ed Alcock and the ISA apologise for the inconvenience caused to competitors and their parents. We look forward to an exciting year of youth sailing in 2012 which will begin with the ISA Mitsubishi Youth National Sailing Championships in April. Registration is now open for the event on www.dublinbay2012.com.

6. Programme and Schedule of Racing.
The draw to allocate competitors to flights and boats will be held at the briefing. Competitors shall not change or swap their allocated boat or flight.
6.1. Friday December 2, 2011: Registration and Weighing will take place at 17.15 -18.30. 
6.2. Saturday December 3, 2011.
Final Registration and Weighing will take place 08.30 - 09.10.
Competitor briefing: 09.15.
Flight 1 first warning signal will be at 1025hrs. Flight 2 will follow after flight 1 has concluded. Four races, numbered 1-4, will be sailed in each flight.

Following a meeting with the PRO and club Sailing Manager the conclusion was reluctantly reached that sailing would not be possible tomorrow (Saturday 26th). Weather forecasts for Saturday are predicting winds 30/40 knots, this is well in excess of the safe limit for the fleet of boats being provided by RSGYC. Met Eireann have Gale Warnings in effect for the weekend.

Outlook for a further 24 hours until 0600 Sunday 27 November 2011: Gale or strong gale force south to southwest winds veering west to northwest overnight. Rain or showers, heavy at times.

The decision is to POSTPONE the regatta until Saturday December 3rd as the winds seem to moderate from the middle of the week.
A change to the Notice of Race will be made to this effect.

Ireland’s most prestigious junior sailing event, the ISA Junior & Girls All Ireland Sailing Championships, will take place on the 26th of November in the Royal St George Yacht Club, Dun Laoghaire in a fleet of nine Fireflies. The invitational championship, which will see 18 of Ireland’s leading junior sailors compete for the title of 2011 Champion, was originally scheduled for late October but a forecast exceeding 30 knots ensured the event had to be postponed.   

The level of skill in this competition is set to rival any adult championship as Ireland’s elite youth sailors take to the water. Having placed 10th at the ISAF Youth World Championships earlier this year, 2010 champion Philip Doran will be eager to defend his title. He’ll face some fierce opposition though in the form of Seafra Guilfoyle who came 2nd at the Laser 4.7 European Championships as well from some of the younger competitors such as Patrick Crosbie, who this year came 3rd in the Topper World Championships, and Eoin Keller who won the Laser National Championships, to name but two.

Also defending her 2010 Girl’s title will be Sophie Murphy who had an excellent year, coming 11th in the ISAF Youth World Championships. However six other girls will be ready to challenge her for the prestigious accolade including Emma Geary, who as a 420 sailor is experience in double handed boats and some of the younger sailors such as Sophie Browne who is ranked 1st Senior Optimist sailor in Ireland.

Each competitor will sail with one crew member of their choice in one of the nine Fireflies. On Saturday morning the teams will be separated into two flights and will sail four races each. Eight teams will then progress through to the final medal race.
