Published by Galway County Council and Meitheal Mara with the assistance of the Heritage Council, the book is being launched this evening by Jimmy Deenihan TD, Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht at the Marine Institute, Rinville, Oranmore.
This highly-illustrated, 182 page, bi-lingual book presents the exciting story of the rich and vibrant boating heritage of County Galway. The boat-types covered include all of the Galway Hooker family of boats, Bád Mór, Leathbhád, Gleoiteog, Púcán & Bád Iomartha; curachs, both canvas and GRP-skinned; the ubiquitous Curach Adhmaid; Lake-boats; Shannon Cruisers; Canal Barges; Fishing Boats; Yachts; Oyster Dredger Flats, Yawls and Curachs and many more.
The authors are Donal Lynch, Padraic de Bhaldraithe, Catherine Buchanan and Donal MacPolin.
