The ISA will hold a trials to select the ISA 4.7 squad on the 12th and 13th November in the National Yacht Club, Dublin. Five places are available on the squad, which will undergo further training and coaching in addition to the ISA Regional Squad training, to prepare sailors for the 2012 season.

The ISA 4.7 Squad has been a past feeder for Junior sailors coming from the Optimist and Topper class whom wish to develop further in performance sailing. Sailors tend to sail the 4.7 for an 18 month period before progressing on to the Laser Radial by simply updating their lower mast and sail whilst keeping their same laser hull and equipment whilst others are physically suited to it and remain happily racing in the class.

Squads exist in the 4.7 at regional level in Munster and Leinster, run by the ISA, as well in Northern Ireland, run by RYANI. The Laser 4.7 is a popular choice for young sailors moving from Optimists and Topper whom are less than 63kgs and wish to sail and race nationally and internationally. The Irish Laser Nationals held this year in Lough Derg had 50 Laser 4.7's competing.
