The Laser National Championships will take place in Dromineer under the burgee of Loug Derg Yacht Club this weekend. Organisers are looking forward to welcoming a large fleet in to Lough Derg Yacht Club's extensive dinghy facilities.
Racing will be over four days starting on Thursday. With plenty of race area close by to our Club, Dromineer lends itself well to multifleet racing. The MV Phoenix will act as main Committee Boat, a task that she has been involved in since the classes inception to Ireland back in the 1970's. The Phoenix itself is 40 years older than the Titanic so she has seen many classes come and go on Ireland's Inland Waterways. The Lefroy family will be key to the race management over the weekend as well as Liam Moloney , Patrick Blaney, Geof O'Donoghue and Jonathan Foley.
The wind is forecast to be light and varying in direction, so a sharp eye will be required to pick up those lifts on the lake which can differ considerably to a more predictable sea breeze many will be familiar with.
Catering and entertainment will as always be lively in the village so an enjoyable weekend will be enjoyed by all those who travel. We look forward to welcoming many Laser owners to our Club to enjoy our facilities and challenging racing waters.
