The new season is well under way at Kinsale Outdoor Education Centre. As always a new sailing season is marked by the return of ISA Instructor Courses to the waters around Kinsale as our attention turns to the development of the new generation of ISA Sailing and Powerboat Instructors.

Already the first batch of powerboat instructors have qualified, most heading for Cove Sailing Club in order to continue the huge development thats has already begun in Cork harbour's “other” club. While last weekend (April 2nd and 3rd) saw the completion of pre entry courses by eight prospective Dinghy Instructors, it is the week preceding Easter when the real work begins.

This year the almost traditional pre Easter instructor course is being augmented by the inclusion of a Dinghy and Powerboat Senior Instructor. This reflects perfectly the emphasis placed by the KOEC upon the continuing training and upskilling of ISA instructors, both our own and those spread around the country.

Victor Fusco, manager and ISA Sail and Powerboat Trainer, reckons it is the continual upgrading instructors which is key to increasing the standard of Sailing and Powerboating in Ireland. “Instructors are, for most of the recreational boaters in the country, the sole point of contact with the ISA, as such it is extremely important that we continue to ensure our instructors are of the very highest standards.”

As if to illustrate this point KOEC will be a veritable brains trust of ISA training expertise in the coming month, with no less than four ISA trainers in residence for the week of the 18th to the 22nd of April. Ruth Ennis, Joe Rooney and Noelle Doran will all join Victor for a week of courses. Speaking at the weekend Ruth Ennis enthused at the opportunity that this represents for the trainee instructors. “It's a massive chance for the young instructors to pick the brains of four very experienced and very different Sail and Powerboat Trainers, which can only be good for their professional development”

If you want to join us for this week of courses places are limited but still available.
Contact the office on 0214772748.

Ben Fusco,
KOEC Instructor
