A revalidation peroid of 5 years makes the most sense particularly if you are qualified in more than one discipline. I my opinion revalidation should be more about developing good coaching skills and how to deliver better training sessions. New techniques, teaching skills or just how to deliver better sessions can only lead to better instructors all around. To me, revalidation feels like the pre-entry assessment all over again rather than being engaged in a learning environment. There seems to be no recognition given to those that have achieved advanced qualifications. I believe a more relaxed approach, with a recognition of prior learning, with a focus on improving how we teach, would create a better learning environment for everyone.
